There are many opportunities to make an impact in the region this winter!

March 2025

Thursday, March 6: Stewardship Volunteer Thursday with WCT

Saturday, March 8: Darby Creek Trail Volunteer Series with DCVA

  • Join the Darby Creek Valley Association (DCVA) and Haverford Township Parks & Recreation in a new monthly volunteer series dedicated to the care and restoration of the Darby Creek Trail. Each event focuses on essential stewardship activities, including invasive species removal, maintenance of past tree planting sites, and monitoring the health of newly planted trees. These efforts directly support native ecosystems and ensure the trail remains a thriving green space for wildlife and visitors alike.

Wednesday, March 12: Lecture Lunch: My Little Corner of the Homegrown National Park

with Mike Piccioni, hosted by Main Line Unitarian Church

  • Part of the Nature's Best Hope Is You! lecture series, Mike Piccioni, member of the Biodiversity Project at MLUC, shares a personal story: his ongoing efforts to create a more wildlife and pollinator friendly yard. He shares some tips on how to create a native plant rain garden. Enjoy a delicious home cooked lunch ($10 donation per person), fellowship, and time for questions and answers.

Thursday, March 13: Stewardship Volunteer Thursday with WCT

Saturday, March 15: DCVA Annual Meeting at the Haverford Community Recreation & Environmental Center with DCVA

Learn how communities can support bird migration and pollinator survival across neighborhoods through the Pollinator Pathway. This presentation will offer simple tips to enhance local habitats, integrate your landscape with the natural world, and experience the joy of vibrant, living gardens.

Thursday, April 10: Forest Bathing with WCT

  • With origins inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin Yoku, Forest Bathing or Forest Therapy, harnesses the health and restorative benefits the natural world holds for us. This experience will be a bit different than a traditional outdoor guided walk, not focusing on sharing naturalist knowledge or identification, but instead allowing the forest and birds to intentionally guide us into slowing our pace by a skilled leader who is a Certified Forest Therapy Guide.

Saturday, April 12: 21st Annual Stream Watch with DCVA

  • Help sample the macroinvertebrates in the creek! Stay for the whole time or show up for a portion. This is a great opportunity to get in the creek, take samples, work with the samplers, and see what is living in Darby Creek. We take samples from six locations on Darby Creek: Bartram Park in Darby, the Swedish Cabin in Upper Darby, Darby Creek Road in Haverford (downstream from the Haverford Reserve), Skunk Hollow in Radnor, the Brandywine Preserve at Waterloo Mills in Easttown, and the pump house next to the bridge on Newtown Road Berwyn.
